The Australian Government’s Hearing Services Program (HSP) covers a range of clients.
- You may likely qualify if you have hearing loss, needing hearing aids and are one of the below*:
- An Australian pensioner (age or disability support)
- Receiving sickness allowance from Centrelink
- A DVA Gold or White Hearing cardholder
- A dependent of an eligible person
- A serving member of the Australian Defence Force

HSP hearing aids - your questions answered
Are the fully-subsidised aids any good?
Yes – hearing aids has improved significantly over the years. The free devices we fit today use modern digital processing, multiple programs for different environments, and directional microphones. For most clients they’re genuinely excellent. If you have a specific lifestyle requirement, we’ll discuss whether a top-up to a premium device is worthwhile – but many clients are completely satisfied with the fully-subsidised option.
Do I really pay nothing?
Correct. If you are identified with hearing loss, needing hearing aids, and are fitted with fully subsidised hearing aids, there will be no out-of-pocket cost to you. The only charges that can apply are for voluntary upgrades (such as rechargeable Hearing Aids ) – and those are completely optional and discussed upfront.
Can I switch to Hearing Point from another HSP provider?
Absolutely – every HSP client has the right to change provider. We handle the transfer paperwork for you. If you already have aids, we can often adjust them under HSP aftercare at no cost to you.
